2008 Egyptian Event Leading Sires & Dams

The 2008 Egyptian Event saw a changing of the guard as for the first time in 12 years Thee Desperado was not the Leading Halter Sire. The crown has now passed to his son, Botswana (x The Minuet), who had 20 get amass a total of 179Botswana points to best his sire, who had 20 get with halter titles (including Reserve Senior Champion Stallion and Reserve Supreme Champion Stallion The Legend) but with 30 less points. Botswana’s new distinction follows on his accomplishments last year of ranking a close second as a Leading Halter Sire to his own sire and being named the Leading Halter and Performance sire, a title his sire had held for six prior years. This year, Botswana’s winners included the Reserve Champion Stallion ATH TF Prince De Beers and the Reserve Supreme Champion Gelding TF Afrikhan Gold. Botswana was also once again the Leading Halter and Performance Sire with five get who placed in performance including the Western Pleasure Champion TF Afrikhan Bey and the Western Pleasure Reserve Champion TF Tsanzibar. Two of get (TF Afrikhan Gold and TF Star of Afrika) won in both halter and performance. Botswana also won in halter himself (placing second in the world championship class for stallions 10 and over). What makes his achievement all the more remarkable is that Botswana has just 82 registered get, whereas his sire Thee Desperado has 818 at the time of this writing., so Botswana’s accomplishment as Leading Halter Sire was achieved with just 10% as many get as that of his sire, who has dominated the show statistics for over a decade.

Eleven stallions on the Leading Halter Sire List also have sons on the list. Thee Desperado has already been mentioned as having 12 sons on this year’s list. Imperial Imdal has five sons on the list, including Hawkeye CC, Sterling Vision, Rahima, PVA Kariim and Imtaarif. Stallions with two sons on the list include Richter MH (Ibn Nitaya and Richteous), Al Baraki (HHP Sahib and Ali Aten), PVA Kariim (Imperial Baarez and Ama Fa-Serr) and Ansata Sinan (Ansata Nile Nadir and *Mishaal HP). Sires on the list with one son also on the list include Imtaarif (Imtut), Alixir (Bellagio RCA), Ansata Iemhotep (Ansata Sirius), Imperial Baarez (Imperial Mistaar), and The Minstril (Thee Desperado).

Three stallions not on the Leading Sire List have multiple sons on the list. Ansata Halim Shah is represented by three sons: Orfan Bey, Ansata Nile Emir, and *Al Adeed Al Shaqab. Ruminaja Ali also has three sons on the list: Ali Saroukh, Maar Ibn Ali, and The Minstril. Stallions with two sons on the list include *Ibn Safinaz (Imperial Shehaab and Safeen) and El Halimaar (Richter MH and Jabbaar Elhalimaar MH).

Ten horses who won at the Event this year have offspring who also won. Two of these are mares and seven are stallions. She had two hunt pleasure placings as well.

Eleven mares produced more than one winner at this year’s show. In addition, four mares produced two leading sires apiece and two mares produced a halter winner and a leading sire. The dams of multiple leading sires are: Nagda (Nabiel x Bint Magidaa), dam of Majestic Noble SMF (Marquis I) and Sterling Vision (Imperial Imdal), Jubilleee (The Minstril x Ansata Justina), dam of CN Jericho and Insignia Desha (both by Thee Desperado), and Shallha (Shiko Ibn Sheikh x Maar-Kamala), dam of AK Bay Moniet (*Ibn Moniet El Nefous) and The Romeo (by Thee Desperado). Of the eleven mares who produced more than one winner apiece, two are non-Egyptian and one is Egyptian related, with the remaining eight straight Egyptian in pedigree. Two of them are by The Minstril and two more are by Thee Desperado, a son of The Minstril. Five mares produced two halter winners apiece. Samura (Anaza El Farid x Glorieta Sayonaara) is a maternal sister to Leading Halter Sire Ali Saroukh. She is the dam of top ten extended specialty Princess Samaria (by PVA Kariim) and of Sybella SMF (by Majestic Noble SMF), who won the Egyptian Breeders Challenge Filly class. Theee China Doll (Thee Desperado x Kuhaylah Nitaya) is out of a mare who also ranks as a leading sam. She is the dam of Off The Richter (Richter MH), who has top tens in world champion and futurity halter, and Jabbaar B Doll (Jabbaar Elhalimaar MH), a top ten futurity winner. Ramses Novaglori (The Elixir x Ramses Glory B) is the dam of TF Afrikhan Al Khemi (Botswana), top ten in amateur and world champion halter, and of his full sister TF Nirvanaha, a top ten winner in world championship halter. Alia Riyala (The Minstril x Aliala) is the dam of top ten futurity filly Emirat Riyala (by *Mishaal HP) and of Aliah Shaniah (by *Shahir IASB), who won the mare junior to show class and was second in her world championship class. Her son Ali Aten (by Al Baraki) is a Leading Halter Sire.

Two mares produced two halter or performance winners. SH Heumoresque (Euker x Heleana), who is non-Egyptian, is the dam of top ten futurity and world champion halter TF Hassan (by Botswana) and second place mare JTH, top ten world champion halter and amateur novice handler halter TF Star of Afrika (also by Botswana), who also has two hunt pleasure ribbons. The straight Egyptian Kuhaylah Nitaya (Tammen x Aleeshah) is the dam of top ten world champion halter Sweet Eloise (by Thee Desperado) and of Ibn Nitaya (by Richter MH), who has five performance ribbons and is a Leading Halter Sire. Kuhaylah Nitaya is also the dam of Leading Halter Dam Theee China Doll, a full sister to Sweet Eloise.

Two mares produced three halter and/or performance winners apiece and therefore are jointly the Leading Dam of the show. Egyptian-related Shaia (*Simeon Shai x Bint Zlabiya) is the dam of Fire Queen SMF (Ali Saroukh), who was second in her world championship class. She also produced Suncatcher SMG (by BB The Renegade), top ten in world championship competition, and Ali Sadid (Ali Saroukh), a ribbon winner in hunt pleasure. Rohara Shahblee’s daughter Maggie Lee BA is the dam of TF Afrikhan Magik (by Botswana) who won the western pleasure junior horse class.

Our annual research to determine the leading sires of halter and performance winners at the Egyptian Event has been conducted on the following point system devised by the author. For halter sires, four points were assigned for each top ten placing, six points for second place, seven for first place, nine for a reserve championship, and 10 for a championship. To be included in the points chart, a stallion had to sire multiple winners or one winner with at least two different placings. Halter sires also are ranked in a separate chart by number of winners sired. Halter classes included in this system include the World Championship, Futurity, Extended Specialty, Amateur To Show, and Egyptian Breeders' Challenge classes, but not Get of Sire, Produce of Dam, Liberty or Most Classic Head.

Performance sires were ranked by the following point system, In non-championship classes, five points went to first place, four points to second, and two for all other placings. For championship classes, 10 points were awarded for each championship, nine for reserve, and four for all other placings. To be included in the points chart, a stallion had to sire at least two winners apiece, or one winner with multiple placings. A number of stallions sired horses with both halter and performance points, and are ranked by points in their own chart.
